The Latest on College Admissions Testing Requirements

Standardized Testing for College Admissions as of May 2022

This is a continuously changing landscape as college decisions about testing requirements for the class of 2023 trickle in.

Tests Required

Test Required means standardized test scores are required in order to apply to the school.

• The University of Tennessee System has decided that all campuses, including UT Knoxville, will now require standardized tests (ACT/SAT) for first-year applicants applying to attend UT in Fall 2023.

• MIT Will require the SAT or ACT for the class of 2023

• The State University System of Florida requires Standardized Test Scores

Test Optional

Test Optional means the college will consider the test scores if they are submitted, but in most circumstances, the scores are not required for a student to submit an application. Each college has specific nuances for this. It is always important to check the college website for those details.

• NCAA Waived the Standardized Testing Requirement for the current high school Juniors (students scheduled to graduate in 2023) and a permanent removal of the requirement is proposed.

Test Blind

Test Blind means a college will not look at test scores even if the student does submit them

• California State Schools are Test Blind 

• University of California System is Test Blind
